The coaching staff of the Kanata Cyborgs unanimously selected Brandon Swain as candidate for the Sportsmanship Award. I was fortunate to be assigned an excellent group of players this year, many that I would be proud to nominate for this award; it was an easy choice to nominate Brandon.

You'll notice Brandon to be one of the smaller players on the ice, but he'll be one of the 1st players you notice, #9. Driving to the net, the 1st player back on the back-check, to cover on D, a smart pass, you can feel Brandon's passion from the stands. Brandon helps make his teammates better by the smart way he plays the game and the positive energy he shares with them. There is always a buzz and laughter around Brandon, one of the hubs in the dressing room. When its time to listen, Brandon is usually the 1st to focus and pay due respect. A delight to coach, Brandon is respectful of his coaches and teammates by paying attention to what is being communicated, contributing through his actions on & off the ice, and politely speaking his point of view.

At a recent grocery store fundraiser we covered the day long event through shifts. Brandon helped to cover multiple shifts demonstrating his leadership by showing shy or inexperienced teammates what to do. I know I'm old fashion, but when Brandon and a couple teammates stepped-up and helped some seniors with their groceries and take the time to politely listen to their stories, I was very proud. I've mentioned to Brandon's dad that Brandon is too polite, he helped an opposing player pick-up his stick after colliding into him. initially I wasn't sure if I should pat him on the back or give him crap, I just smiled, he did the right thing. This is just a sample of simple things that consistently happen day in & day out with Brandon, it are these simple life things that make the difference for all of us.

Brandon lives, sleeps, and dreams hockey; if he has free time he is practicing his shot at home or, weather permitting, at the outdoor rink. "Thank you coach", a handshake, positive words to a teammate, never giving up, always trying his best. Brandon brings it on & off the ice with electrified excitement and a thoughtful perspective. His teammates follow his positive example which has helped make my team a dream team, win or lose. although we like to win.

On behalf of the Kanata Cyborgs, please accept my nomination of Brandon Swain for the Sportsmanship Award.

Regards, Cameron Creech

Peewee

Peewee Award Recipient - Austin Gerow #13, St. Hilda's Eagles (Oakville
Written submission by Head Coach - Nelson Pavao

We would like to nominate Austin Gerow for the FSMT sportsmanship Award.

Austin has been playing hockey since the age of 7, many of the coaches at the time quickly recognized Austin abilities and his keen hockey sense.  Austin has enjoyed many successes over the years in HL and has been rewarded by being apart of 2 HL championship teams.  Austin has been around the game almost since birth; he is a huge fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and can be spotted on many Friday nights at an Oakville Blades games with his father Grant.

Austin loves playing HL hockey, He is always one of the first to arrive and stays to watch most of the other teams play their games. He has many friends through out the league and many admirers of his abilities. Austin is a great teammate works hard every shift and makes the players around him better. He is presently tied in league scoring but never puts his own success over his team winning the game.

In January of 2007 Austin season came to and end early, Austin underwent a major surgery. A piece of his hip bone was removed and graphed to correct a problem in his mouth. He has endured a lot in his young life but never looks back always forward. He still feels the effects of the surgery on his hip but always plays through the discomfort and never makes excuses for not playing his best.

Last season I met the Gerow’s for the first time while Austin was playing Minor Pw. Our team last season did a huge Breast Cancer fundraiser; we invited all the team out to the event. Austin encourages all of his teammates to attend the event.  I know he is very proud to be a part of our team this year and has been great kid on and off the ice. He is very coach able and understands the little things he needs to do to make him and his teammates better.

I invite your committee to watch Austin this weekend and hopefully you will see the same great things that we his coaches have the privilege of seeing every week.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
